Nutcracker Praise

By the end of the Nutcracker season, I’m usually pretty tuckered out. All from sourcing shoes, costume essentials, and dealing with small catastrophes. I wish I had the energy to see every show that we have a hand in, but there simply isn’t enough energy in me to do so. So, each year I try to make it to one or two, letting the pace and availability of work lead me to a show. This year, Kathryn Rodgers of Centennial State Ballet graciously extended the invitation to last night’s production at the Longmont Performing Arts Theater. CSB’s production was fabulous and is one of my favorites. Let me tell you why.
If you haven’t been to this theater, located on Main St, it’s small, sweet, and a little retro. You walk into the small lobby with a cute concession stand, butter and salted popcorn, leading you to the counter. Perfect for packing the house with happy families and friends. The vibe is so community, you warm up as soon as you walk in the door.
Not only is the venue fun and inviting, but this feeling extends into the set design and the costuming. A pianist to the left of the stage, a harpist to the right. A vocalist. Live music at its basic add to the intimacy of the production. The musicians - amazing. The costuming, all new this year, is creative and fun! The party scene is fresh with costuming that feels real. New tutus are fun, colorful, and lively. It fit the overall production perfectly. The choreography -fluid, fun, appropriate. My favorite Arabian to date.
I’ll forever be in love with this performance. Thank you, CSB, for sharing it with us. You have some great people over there who care about one another and lift each other up. Troy and I are grateful to be a part of your community. And although I want to keep your gloriousness to myself so it stays so wonderfully cozy, I must share how beautiful this production is.
