Fall Registration opens June 1st, 2025

Fall Classes begin August 18th, 2025

Ballet offers a wide range of physical, mental, and social benefits that are valuable regardless of gender:

Strength and Athleticism: Ballet builds core strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and muscular endurance. Many professional athletes use ballet to enhance their performance.

Discipline and Focus: Ballet requires precision, dedication, and mental focus. These qualities often transfer to other areas of life, including academics and sports such as football, hockey, basketball, martial arts, and wrestling.

Creative Expression: Ballet is an art form. It gives people a way to express emotions and tell stories through movement, encouraging emotional intelligence and confidence.

Teamwork and Community: Ballet involves ensemble work and partnering, teaching collaboration, respect, and trust among peers.

Dance is a progressive, embodied art form.

Faculty evaluate individual students and the class as a whole throughout the year as they adapt the learning path for the dancers at each level.

Students receive evaluations and placement letters for the following season after the annual showcase.

Evaluations detail student-specific corrections and offer insight into the student’s placement for the following year.

CSB Technique Class Levels

Technique 1: Introduction to Ballet Beginning in our Intro to Ballet and Beginning Ballet levels, this level is designed for students who have little or no experience in ballet. It aims to build an understanding of basic ballet principles including fundamental positions of the feet and arms, proper alignment, coordination, class flow, and rhythm. Level 1 classes aim to foster a love of dance and movement in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Technique 2: Technique Level 2 builds on the foundational skills learned in the previous level, while expanding the vocabulary of basic ballet moves and positions. We begin to work on combining moves to create short patterns and begin challenging the student's memory. We also begin to focus on developing strength, flexibility, and coordination, while continuing to nurture a supportive environment and a love for movement/dance.

Technique 3: Technique Level 3 marks a significant step in a dancer's training. Students will begin barre work to focus on the details of their technique and be challenged with more complex center work, including longer combinations, more intricate steps, and a larger vocabulary. Students will continue to develop their strength, flexibility, coordination, and musicality. Students will build the strength, body awareness, and mobility needed to safely begin training for pointe work.

Technique 4: Students in Technique Level 4 demonstrate a strong understanding and execution of the foundations of ballet at both barre and in the center. Barre work becomes more demanding, and center work features complex combinations, including complex turns, multi-step jumps, and traveling patterns. In Level 4, we begin to introduce differences in the styles of ballet, pulling from the different syllabi, or styles of ballet, ie. Balanchine, Vaganova … We emphasize refinement of technique, artistry, and performance quality.

Technique 5: Technique Level 5 is for students with a strong foundation in ballet technique and a commitment to rigorous training. Students should know all of the basic vocabulary and be able to execute highly challenging barre and center work, in flat shoes, and those who dance on pointe, in pointe shoes. Students are expected to demonstrate high levels of musicality, fluidity, and control. Students begin to explore more expressive movement and musical interpretation. Our emphasis is placed on technical mastery, artistic expression, and performance readiness.

Technique 6: Technique Level 6 is designed for students of high school age who are committed to continuing their training. Students in this level know most ballet vocabulary, understand the differences between different styles of ballet, and, for those in pointe shoes, can complete an entire class in pointe shoes. The training is intensive and demanding, focusing on refining technique, developing artistry, and preparing for performance opportunities and possibly auditions. Emphasis is placed on developing a strong work ethic, discipline, and professionalism.

Look at our Advanced Trainee Program Page for information on taking dance training to the next level.
